Today, within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, JSC Zarubezhgeologia (Moscow, the enterprise is part of the ROSGEO state holding) and the Ministry of Mining and Oil Industry of the Republic of Madagascar signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
The document assumes long-term cooperation of the parties in the field of geological study, assessment of the mineral resources condition, prospecting and exploration of mineral deposits in the territory of the Republic of Madagascar. On the Russian side, it was signed by the Director General of Zarubezhgeologiya JSC - Director for Marketing and Foreign Projects of JSC ROSGEO Anastasia Afanasyeva, on the Madagascar side - Minister of Mining and Oil Industry of the Republic Ing Vah Zafilakhi. The signing took place in the presence of Roman Panov, General Director and Chairman of the Board of JSC ROSGEO.
The parties identified the following areas of cooperation as priority: compilation of a modern forecast-metallogenic map of the territory of Madagascar, scale 1: 500,000, medium- and large-scale targeted mapping of prospective territories, compilation of sets of specialized maps of the main ore areas, implementation of specialized regional surveys (geochemistry, aerogeophysics, onshore geophysics, seismic profiling), and prospecting and evaluation of deposits of solid minerals and hydrocarbons with estimation of resources and stocks.
Also, the partners intend to cooperate in the field of education and training of engineering and technical personnel in the field of prospecting and exploration of solid commercial minerals, oil and gas.
“Madagascar is a promising territory for a variety of minerals,” - said Anastasia Afanasyeva. - ROSGEO has accumulated groundwork in this region since the Soviet times. We are confident that the experience, the existing database, as well as the unique competence of the holding company, will be useful to the Republic of Madagascar in the development and mastering of the country’s mineral and raw materials base".
